Two Morris County players selected in USHL Draft
This week, the USHL Phase I and II Draft was held, with Phase I for "futures" players on Monday, followed by Phase II for all junior hockey age-eligible players that have not been protected by a USHL team on Tuesday.
The overall draft process saw two players from Morris County get selected. Morristown-Beard sophomore Nick Vantassell- a center who was previously selected in the OHL Priority Selection by the Windsor Spitfires last month- was taken in the sixth round (84th pick) by the Green Bay Gamblers in the Phase I draft.
Vantassell tallied 16 goals and 19 assists in his sophomore season for Morristown-Beard during its run to the Mennen Cup title this past winter. He also netted 22 goals to go along with 26 assists in 20 games for the New Jersey Rockets 16U team.
Chatham's David Andreychuk, a center who last skated for the Cougars during his sophomore season in 2017-18, was taken in the ninth round of the Phase II Draft by the Waterloo Black Hawks.
He registered 21 goals and nine assists during his sophomore year for Chatham, in helping lead the Cougars to the Public C final. He has spent the last two years at The Gunnery, a prep school in Connecticut. He tallied 16 goals and 37 assists for a total of 53 points in 35 games this past winter. He recently committed to play for Division I St. Lawrence University beginning in 2021-22.
