Jan. 27 recap: Randolph and Morristown tie, Knolls-Hills triumphs as Mennen Division race tightens

Randolph 2, Morristown 2

Evan Xhumba's goal with 4:47 remaining, just 1:36 after it fell behind, helped Randolph earn a 2-2 tie with Morristown at Mennen Arena.

After Matt Rogers gave Randolph (12-2-4) the lead in the first period, Harry Santen tied the game up at one in the final minute of the second. Then, Jack McKenna scored a go-ahead goal for Morristown (8-7-4) with 6:23 to go in the third.

Dylan Peck made 21 saves for Morristown. It marked Randolph's second-straight tie, and is unbeaten in its last eight games (5-0-3). Morristown, on the other hand, is unbeaten in its last three (1-0-2) and finds itself in strong position to qualify for the state tournament with just two regular season games remaining.

Morris Knolls-Hills 3, Chatham 0

Three different goal scorers found the back of the net for Morris Knolls-Hills in a 3-0 win over Chatham at Mennen Arena.

James Betz, Jason Kwestel, and Andrew Ryan each scored for Morris Knolls-Hills, which completed its 10-game Mennen Division schedule with this win. It finishes at 6-2-2 with 14 points, which puts the team in first place- for now. Randolph, which has 13 points with a game in hand (5-1-3), currently sits in second, while Morristown-Beard has 12 points (6-2) with two games in hand for third.

All three teams could legitimately finish in first place, but Morris Knolls-Hills path to the top spot requires a lot of help- it would need Randolph to lose to Madison on Saturday, while Morristown-Beard would need to lose to both Morristown and Chatham later this week.

Morristown-Beard currently controls its own destiny for the top seed, as it would take the regular season crown by sweeping Morristown and Chatham. As for Randolph, if it wins its final game against Madison and Morristown-Beard drops either of its final two games,

Don Bosco Prep 7, Morristown-Beard 3

For the first time since Dec. 6 (the second game of the season), Morristown-Beard found itself in the loss column.

Despite a strong effort against the state's No. 2 ranked team and defending Non-Public champion in Don Bosco Prep, the Crimson, who were riding an impressive 14-game unbeaten streak, dropped a 7-3 decision at the Ice Vault in Wayne.

Morristown-Beard (13-3-1) fell behind, 4-1 in the second period, before Billy Moloney and Andrew Low each scored to cut the deficit to just one. But Don Bosco Prep responded, as it rattled off the next three goals to close out the win.

Tommy Matthews also scored for Morristown-Beard.
