Jan. 20 recap: Morristown-Beard, Montville claim big divisional wins

Morristown-Beard 5, Morris Knolls-Hills 1

Morristown-Beard avenged an early-season loss to Morris Knolls-Hills with a 5-1 victory at Mennen Arena.

In fact, the last team Morristown-Beard lost to was Morris Knolls on Dec. 6, which was a 6-1 defeat. That loss dropped Morristown-Beard to 0-2, but since then it has gone on a tear with a 12-game unbeaten streak, which includes 11 wins. Its overall record is now 11-2-1, with a 5-2 divisional record. It sits just one point behind Morris Knolls in the Mennen Division standings with a game in hand, as Knolls-Hills fell to 5-2-1 in the division and 8-5-2 overall.

Montville 6, Mendham 1

Montville handed Mendham its first Halvorsen Division loss and continued its strong run for the top seed in the Halvorsen Cup with a 6-1 triumph at Mennen Arena.

The win was thanks in large part to Brendan Perretta, who recorded a hat trick in the opening five minutes of the game and finished with a total of four goals. Mike Chang and Dominik Kloda each added goals in the win.

The win improved Montville to 9-3-2, with a 5-1-2 divisional record, which is good enough for first place with 12 points. Mendham dropped to 3-1-3 in the division (9 points) with a 6-3-3 overall record.

Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown 3, Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex 1
