Morris Catholic claimed its first win since the 2017-18 season, ending a 41-game winless streak with a 5-3 win over Newton-Lenape Valley at Mennen Arena.

Freshman Hugh McGuigan led the way with a hat trick for Morris Catholic (1-0), and scored twice in the second period to help his team build a 4-0 lead. Jonathan Tinney and Hayden McGuigan each added goals for the Crusaders. Aldino Guadagnino dished out two assists and Mark Daniel made 16 saves in the win.

Cameron Cherry led Newton-Lenape Valley (0-2) with a goal and two assists. It climbed back from a 4-0 deficit as Ryan Lynch scored with 50 seconds left in the second, before Cherry and Murphy scored- the latter coming with 3:53 left- to make it a 4-3 game. But Hugh McGuigan sealed the win with a shorthanded goal with nine seconds left.
