Feb. 7 recap: Morristown-Beard girls advance to prep final; Gill St. Bernard's, Knolls-Hills win

Girls: Morristown-Beard 5, Trinity Hall 3

Katie Ewig, Faith Facchini, and Kaitlin Skorzewski each scored in the third period to turn a one-goal deficit into a 5-3 win for top seed Morristown-Beard over fourth seed Trinity Hall in the Prep Tournament semifinals at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.


Morristown-Beard (13-5-1) trailed, 2-0 in the first period before Skorzewski netted a shorthanded goal, followed by Anna Bajak's tying goal in the final minute. Trinity Hall took the lead in the second period, before Morristown-Beard rallied in the third to earn the win.


Logan Sutera had three assists, while Lilli Warnock and Alexa Degan each had two assists. Sasha Berniker made 15 saves in the win.


The win advances Morristown-Beard to the Prep Tournament final on Tuesday, where it will take on second seed Pingry at Twin Oaks Ice Rink at 4:30. Morristown-Beard will look to claim its fifth-straight Prep Tournament title.


Gill St. Bernard's 6, Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown 2

Gill St. Bernard's capped off a strong finish to the regular season, as it finishes the year with wins in six of its last seven with a 6-2 win over Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown.


Edward McCarthy scored twice and had an assist for Gill St. Bernard's. Adam LaTournous, Christian Mote, Brenen Lavoie, and Liam Jones each added goals in the win.


Gill St. Bernard's improved its overall record to 11-4-3, and finished its Haas Division schedule with a 10-3-3 record. It is locked into the fourth seed for the Haas Cup, while Mount Olive's loss dropped it to 13-6-2 overall, with a 11-3-2 divisional record. Mount Olive will be the third seed in the Haas Cup.


Evan Parr and Ethan Tillery each scored for Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown.


Morris Knolls-Hills 5, Mendham 2

Gehrig Eckoff recorded a hat trick and an assist to lift Morris Knolls-Hills to a 5-2 win over Mendham at the Ice Vault in Wayne.


Jason Kwestel had a goal and three assists, while Andrew Ryan dished out four assists for Morris Knolls-Hills (13-5-3). Jake Quinn and Gehrig Eckoff scored 28 seconds apart in the second to give Knolls-Hills a 2-0 lead, before Tristan Aikenhead responded 12 seconds later for Mendham (9-6-5) with a goal, then Michael Gionco tied it up 54 seconds later. In total, four goals were scored in a span of 1:34.


Jason Kwestel gave Knolls-Hills the lead for good with two minutes remaining in the second, before Eckoff scored twice in the third to seal the win.


Elliot Marken made 24 saves for Morris Knolls-Hills.
