Feb. 19 cup recap: Gill St. Bernard's makes history; Mountain Lakes, Roxbury advance

Gill St. Bernard's 4, Park Regional 2

For the first time in program history, Gill St. Bernard's is heading to the Haas Cup final.

The fourth seed Knights, who just two seasons ago snapped a two-plus year long losing streak, picked up a 4-2 upset win over top seed Park Regional in Wednesday's Haas Cup semifinal at Mennen Arena.

It marked just the second loss of the season for Park Regional- and both came to Gill St. Bernard's.

Four different players found the back of the net for Gill St. Bernard's, as Matthew Bloomenthal and Edward McCarthy each had a goal and an assist, while Brenen Lavoie and Logan Mote each scored. Gill St. Bernard's built a 2-0 lead, before Park Regional struck twice in the second to tie it up. McCarthy scored the go-ahead goal late in the second, before Bloomenthal's empty-netter sealed it.

Alex Steinberg made 21 saves for Gill St. Bernard's.

Ed Karpinski and Tyler Cross each scored for Park Regional.

Mountain Lakes-Boonton 6, Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown 0

John Lane scored a hat trick to send second seed Mountain Lakes-Boonton to the Haas Cup final after a 6-0 win over third seed Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown in the semifinals at Mennen Arena.

It will be Mountain Lakes' first appearance in a cup final since it reached back-to-back Halvorsen finals in 2010-11, and will look to claim its first-ever title.

Cameron Egan scored twice for Mountain Lakes-Boonton. Aiden Reidy had a goal and an assist, while Caz Kotsen dished out three assists in the win.

Roxbury 7, Vernon 1

After a two-year absence, top seed Roxbury is heading back to the Halvorsen Cup final after a dominant 7-1 win over fourth seed Vernon at Mennen Arena.

It was Roxbury's third win of the year over Vernon, and puts the Gaels into Saturday's final at 4:15 at Mennen Arena against tomorrow's winner of second seed Montville and third seed Mendham. Roxbury will be going for its third Halvorsen Cup title after winning it back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.
