Feb. 13 cup recap: Madison stuns Knolls-Hills; Park, Vernon, Mendham advance

Mennen Cup: Madison 1, Morris Knolls-Hills 0

With the amount of talent that there is in the Mennen Division- one of the top divisions in the state- on a year-to-year basis, there's always the potential for a surprising result.

Madison, the sixth seed, pulled off a stunning upset as it took down third seed Morris Knolls-Hills 1-0 in the first round of the Mennen Cup at Mennen Arena. Liam Fry scored the game-deciding goal with 10:16 left in the third period, assisted by Tyler Shannon.

Morris Knolls-Hills not only beat Madison by a combined score of 16-1 in both regular season meetings, but Madison entered this year's Mennen Cup with a winless 0-9-1 record in the Mennen Division. But when it mattered most, Madison got outstanding goaltending from Keaton Tom, who made 43 saves to earn the shutout. In total, Madison was out-shot 43-21.
