Dec. 17 recap: Morristown-Beard continues hot streak; Randolph, Knolls tie

Randolph 3, Morris Knolls-Hills 3

What appeared to be an epic early-season comeback victory for Morris Knolls quickly evaporated, as Randolph's Ben Yurchuk scored with 1:49 left in the game to secure a 3-3 deadlock between the two rivals.

Randolph built a 2-0 lead in the first two periods on goals from Ray McNamara and Zach Gallo. However, Jason Kwestel scored in the second period to cut it to 2-1 for Knolls. Then, Andrew Ryan and Jake Quinn scored just 10 seconds apart to give Morris Knolls the lead against a team that is considered the top public school team in the state.

Morris Knolls goaltender Elliot Marken stopped 25 shots, while Randolph's Gavin Einfeldt turned away 16 shots.

With the tie, Randolph now stands at 4-1-1, while Morris Knolls is 2-2-1.

Morristown-Beard 7, St. Joseph (Met.) 3

Morristown-Beard raced out to a five-goal lead in the first period and never looked back, as it earned a 7-3 win over St. Joseph of Metuchen for the team's fourth win in a row at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

Seth Kaplan dished out five assists for Morristown-Beard (4-2). Nick Vantassell scored twice, while Andrew Low and Noah Jones each recorded a goal and two assists. Jake Ochab, Cam Fernandez, and Logan Jaeger all chipped in with a goal.

In all four of Morristown-Beard's wins during this streak, it has scored at least seven goals. It will put that to the test however, when it faces Bergen Catholic, currently ranked the No. 2 team in the state by NJ.com on Thursday.

Chili Connell made 17 saves in the win.

Christian Brothers 5, Delbarton 2

Delbarton's uncharacteristically slow start to the season continued on Tuesday, as it dropped for the third time in five games, this time to Christian Brothers at Aspen Ice in Randolph.

The loss dropped Delbarton to 2-3. It will face Catholic Memorial of Massachusetts on the road on Sunday at noon.

GIRLS

Randolph 5, Newark East Side 2

Randolph earned its first win of the season thanks to a two-goal, two-assist performance from Anna Stock in a 5-2 triumph in Newark.

Rebecca Tieman had a goal and an assist for Randolph, which improved its record to 1-5. Danielle Redgate and Steph Martin each scored, while Sydney Bordetsky made 10 saves.
