Chatham's Laferriere listed on final NHL Central Scouting rankings for 2020 Draft

Alex Laferriere, who was a standout during Chatham's run to the Public C final in the 2017-18 season, made the NHL's final Central Scouting rankings which were released on Wednesday.

The 18-year old Harvard commit was ranked 61st among North American skaters in the final scouting list leading up to the 2020 NHL Draft. While he may end up hearing his name called by an NHL team, it's unclear as to when that will happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The draft was originally slated to be held June 26-27 in Montreal before it was postponed last month.

In the latest mock draft posted by Draftsite.com, Laferriere was projected to go in the fourth round with the 108th overall pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets. This is a jump from earlier in the year, in which he was projected to be picked in the sixth round in three previous mock drafts.

Laferriere, a 5-11, 173-lb right wing, played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Chatham, before playing his junior year at Kent School, a prep school in Connecticut. He moved on to the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers, where he played in 12 games in which he recorded no points during the 2018-19 season. He took a big leap this season though, as he recorded 45 points in 42 games, including 19 goals and 26 assists.

Those 45 points were a team-high for Des Moines, which saw its season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laferriere recorded 11 goals and 13 assists for Chatham during his sophomore season. As a freshman, he notched eight goals and seven assists.
